Judgment of Paris: California vs. France

The Famous Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, also known as the Judgement of Paris, was a wine competition organized by British Wine Merchant Steven Spurrier, in Paris on May 24th where little known California Wines were entered into a Blind competition against top quality French Producers.

One competition was for California Chardonnay vs Burgundy Chardonnay and the other was for California Cabernets vs Red Bordeaux. Chateau Montelena's Chardonnay shocked the world and took first place in the Chardonnay category. In the red wine category was another upset; Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars took first place.
